Raising awareness on the phenomenon of mobbing against migrant workers
Mobbing is a harmful group behavior in which individuals collectively target a single person with aggressive actions. This often involves isolation, intimidation, or ostracism, leading to a climate of fear and exclusion. Mobbing can occur in social, educational, and professional settings, flourishing on group dynamics where a majority applies psychological pressure on an individual, making them feel vulnerable and marginalized.
In the workplace, mobbing becomes particularly harmful, manifesting as persistent and degrading actions like humiliation, exclusion, and unwarranted criticism. The World Health Organization defines workplace mobbing as "repeated and enduring hostile behavior, including humiliation and isolation, that harms the victim's dignity or creates a hostile work environment."
Discrimination on the grounds of nationality is the most prevalent among migrant workers who don’t share the same cultural background as the host country.
The Talk2Me project aims to help tackle cultural stereotypes by providing a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon and consequences of mobbing, contribute to creating a healthy work environment for migrant employees and promote diversity.
It also wishes to obtain a change in the culture of the labor market by supporting the workers, through making them aware of their rights and offering managers and employees the proper knowledge and tools to identify and address the mobbing situations.
